from the ongoing series, "FAKE, BORING, POINTLESS, AND OBSCENE: Notes From A Weird Day" (pt. IV). Alternately titled "Inject Nutrion Serum into White Castle Sliders DON'T FUCK WITH US WE KNOW IT'S REAL"

snapshots from a journal.

Wearing the past 24 hours on my face.
Yesterday: walked to West Oakland and was chauffeured  in Saything's van, the scene of NWA and The Toadies singalongs. Destination: Santa Cruz.
My brain spazzed out to 3 insane bands and I befriended stand-up women. Joe (Burning of Rome) got shit from The Catalyst's owner after he shredded atop the venue's rafters. Sloshed 1am ride to Monterey, watched a mixed 3am pow-wow (hipsters and metal heads, mostly); slept in the van. Woke up to morning heat, a cut palm, and the sight of Nate leaving the house on a skateboard, returning with a sack of oranges and a box of pancake mix.
Commenced with the black coffee and [jazz] cigarettes, daytime beer.
The afternoon was all quietude and sunbaths and acoustic guitars and reading hyperfiction under all the gorgeous weather that Oakland has lately been denied.
Got un-stranded (note: had previously been stranded) when Aaron and Mr. B saved the day. We  drove down the 1, a blink of the West's finest scenery, to San Jose, where I caught a cheap train back to Jack London. Made it in time for my panel on elementary education policy reform (haw haw). Wrote a song on the way. Saturday: San Diego.

Mao Zedong was kind of a cunt, but he was right in saying "never let your schooling interfere with your education."
"Academia" is embarrassingly performative, redundant, and useless. Like habeas corpus for innocent prisoners, or medicine for the dead.
